SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1009
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Luis A. Garcia, who won a one-year Texas Guaranteed
Tuition Plan community college scholarship in the Texas Tomorrow
Funds Poster Contest; and
WHEREAS, Luis, age 10, is a fifth-grade student at San Luis
Elementary School in Eagle Pass; he is runner-up in the 2003
Texas Tomorrow Funds Poster Contest in the elementary schools
category; and
WHEREAS, The tuition plan allows families to set up a
flexible and affordable plan to prepay their children's college
tuition at today's prices; the scholarship guarantees that
tuition and required fees will be paid when the student is ready
for college; and
WHEREAS, Schoolchildren were asked to submit drawings
depicting "What I Want to Be After College"; Luis's poster
showed a fireman in front of a fire truck backed by flags of the
United States and the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Luis's drawing represents an honorable profession
that requires strength and courage, and Luis is a source of much
pride to his parents, his school, and his community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby congratulate Luis A. Garcia for winning
a scholarship in the Texas Tomorrow Funds Poster Contest and
extend to him best wishes for success in the future; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Luis as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
