SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1066
In Memory
of
Mildred A. May
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of San Antonio and the Texas A&M University community
in mourning the loss of Mildred A. May, who died April 8, 2003,
at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, Born December 10, 1918, in Waco, Mildred was a
proud graduate of Waco High School; she was an active member
of the San Antonio A&M Mothers' Club, and had served as the
organization's president; she was also past president of the
Federation of A&M University Mothers' Clubs; she was preceded
in death by her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Fred May, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Known as "the penultimate Aggie Mom," Mildred
joined the San Antonio A&M Mothers' Club when her oldest son
began attending the university in 1964, and she never stopped
being involved; she became the university's Singing Cadets'
biggest booster in San Antonio, and she was named an Honorary
Singing Cadet; for 39 years, she sponsored the all-male chorus'
annual spring concert in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, This year, after finding that Mrs. May was unable
to attend the group's most recent concert, the cadets met her
in Aggie Park and serenaded her; through raising funds for
scholarships, she had made it possible for many students to
attend Texas A&M University; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. May was a 50-year member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, Bexar Chapter, and a past Worthy Matron; and
WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew her; and
WHEREAS, Mildred May was a devoted mother and grandmother
and "Mom" to many young people, and she leaves behind memories
that will be treasured forever by her family, her extended
family, and her many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Mildred A. May: her sons and daughter-in-law,
Colonel Fred May and Pat and Herbert May; her grandchildren,
Kim Moore and husband, Ruffin, Kris Stanzione and husband, John,
Matt May, and Steven May; and her two great-granddaughters,
Briana Stanzione and Jillian Moore; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Mildred A. May.
