SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1067
In Memory
of
Carl Brenner
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Carl Brenner, who died March 30, 2003,
at the age of 55; and
WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Carl Brenner was
born June 2, 1947, the son of former Solo Serve stores owner
Milton Brenner; he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's
Wharton School of Finance in 1968 and from The University of Texas
School of Law in 1971; and
WHEREAS, He pursued a career as a trial lawyer in San Antonio
and South Texas for approximately 10 years but left the profession
to follow his passion for raising fruit; and
WHEREAS, Carl acquired his first apple and pear orchards
in South Africa, where he lived in the 1980s; he later purchased
more orchards in the State of Washington and formed the Alamo
Orchard Company; he grew a variety of apples but was especially
fond of Asian pears, which his company sold at H-E-B's Central
Markets; and
WHEREAS, Highly regarded as a man of his word, Carl loved
living in San Antonio, where he had a wide circle of friends to
whom he was deeply loyal; and
WHEREAS, He loved the opera and served on the board of the
Houston Grand Opera; he also enjoyed big game hunting in Africa
and fishing in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
he gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom,
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
knew him; and
WHEREAS, Carl Brenner lived his life to the fullest and
was a devoted brother, and he leaves behind memories that will
be treasured forever by his family and his many friends; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
bereaved family of Carl Brenner: his sister, Marie Brenner; his
aunt, the Reverend Ilene Dunn; and his niece, Casey Swartz; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Carl Brenner.
