LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 24, 2003

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB201 by Berman (Relating to the issuance of emergency medical services personnel license plates.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the department to issue specially designed license plates for passenger cars and light trucks owned by emergency medical services personnel certified by the Texas Department of Health under the Health and Safety Code.  The bill would require applicants to submit an $8 annual fee, which would be deposited to the credit of the State Highway Fund, in addition to other applicable registration fees.

No significant fiscal implication is anticipated due to the estimated number of license plate issuances.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
