Honorable Frank Corte, Chair, House Committee on Defense Affairs and State-Federal Relations
FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB564 by Haggerty (Relating to an exemption for certain military personnel and veterans from the requirements of the Texas Academic Skills Program.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would exempt certain military personnel from the requirements of the Texas Assessment of Skills Program (TASP). Since accreditation standards require institutions to test for college readiness and provide developmental education, it is assumed that alternative testing instruments would be used. Exempting military persons meeting the criteria from the TASP requirements would have minimal impact on the number of students required to take developmental courses.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
