LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 8, 2003

TO:
Honorable Jim Keffer, Chair, House Committee on Economic Development

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB804 by Geren (Relating to the minimum wage.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Workforce Commission, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

According to the Texas Municipal League, only one municipality in Texas (the city of Austin) has established an ordinance or charter provision governing wages in private employment other than wages under a contract.

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
