LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2003

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB988 by Brown, Fred (Relating to the composition of the First and Fourteenth courts of appeals districts.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would remove Brazos County from the 1st and 14th Court of Appeals Districts, leaving Brazos County to be served by the 10th Court of Appeals District.  The bill would not change the appellate jurisdiction of cases filed before the effective date of the bill.  Costs to the 1st and 14th Court of Appeals Districts in transferring some cases filed after the effective date of the bill are not anticipated to be significant.

The bill would go into effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
