LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 23, 2003

TO:
Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1163 by Thompson (Relating to contracts between certain health care providers and health benefits plans.), Committee Report 2nd House, As Amended

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require an insurer to pay a licensed podiatrist for a covered service the same amount and in the same manner as a physician who renders the same covered service.

Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Insurance, the duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished within its existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
