The bill amends Article 26.04(d) of the Code of Criminal Procedures relating to procedures for establishing a public appointment list of attorneys from which to appoint counsel for indigent defendants.The bill removes the requirement for an attorney to apply to be included in the public appointment list of attorneys used by county courts, statutory county courts, and district courts trying criminal cases in each county.The Act takes effect September 1, 2003.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Local governmental entities would incur minimal costs researching names of lawyers to add to the public appointment list.
