Fiscal Analysis

The bill would create the position of Native American Liaison within the Secretary of State's office. The liaison, who would be appointed by the Governor, would assist the Native-American community in relationships with government entities, identify resources, coordinate state services, and create a biennial report.

Methodology

The anticipated cost to the Secretary of State's office to implement the provisions of this bill would be $107,422 in fiscal year 2004, $101,422 in fiscal year 2005, and $101,622 in fiscal year 2006 and subsequent years.  The annual cost would include the liaison's salary, travel expenses, and necessary equipment.  The cost also would include expenses associated with a toll-free number for the public to contact the liaison.   The agency anticipates there would be a slight increase in this cost in fiscal year 2006 and subsequent years due to an anticipated increase in the number of calls.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
