LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 7, 2003

TO:
Honorable Carlos Uresti, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1676 by Menendez (Relating to Internet access to information on prescription drug prices.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 531.0317, of the Government Code, to require the Health and Human Services Commission and the Department on Aging to include information on their websites relating to prescription drug prices and links to sites through which prescription drugs may be purchased at a discount.

It is assumed that both agencies could absorb any cost associated with updating their websites to include the required information within existing appropriations.

The bill would partially implement the Comptroller of Public Accounts' e-Texas recommendation HHS 2, "Reduce Prescription Drug Costs for Seniors".

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
