The bill would repeal Section 42.006(d), Election Code, thereby removing the certain requirements for determining the maximum number of registered voters a precinct may contain. The Election Code would also be amended to require that, except as otherwise provided, a county election precinct must contain at least 100 but not more than 5,000 registered voters. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.
Under current statute, the maximum number of registered voters per county precinct is 2,000, except it differs by the population size of the county. For those counties that would be affected by the change in maximum number of registered voters per precinct, there would be a savings by being able to reduce the number of precincts in the county.
