LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 17, 2003

TO:
Honorable Ray Allen, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1853 by Allen (Relating to the operation and maintenance of facilities of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and to the operation of certain department industries.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code by creating a Manufacturing and Logistics Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice that would perform tasks related to construction and maintenance of department facilities as well as the vocational education of inmates.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice assumes that the requirements of the bill could be met by transferring current programming, appropriations, and staff from within the department to the Manufacturing and Logistics Division, which would result in no significant fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
