April 11, 2003

TO:
Honorable Kent Grusendorf, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1857 by Mercer (Relating to the transfer of public school students who are the victims of certain criminal conduct or the siblings of the victims.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 25 of the Education Code by adding Section 25.0341.  The proposed section would require a school district to transfer a student victim of assault, aggravated assault, sexual assault, or aggravated sexual assault or the sibling of the victim to another campus upon parental request.  The bill would require that the transfer campus be acceptable to the parent.  The bill indicates that the transfer could be requested regardless of where the offense occurred.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
