LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 1, 2003

TO:
Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1862 by Bohac (Relating to the voter registration of certain persons disqualified from jury service.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require that persons claiming a disqualification or exemption from jury service due to a lack of citizenship or county residence be notified that they may no longer be eligible to vote in the county.  It would also require court clerks to maintain a list of such persons, and to send this list to the county's voter registrar every month.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Local governmental entities would incur minimal costs to print the required statement on the summons for jury duty and to segregate the names of those ineligible to vote due to citizenship status.
