LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 2, 2003

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1972 by Uresti (Relating to an administrative review process for child support payments.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the state disbursement unit (SDU) to provide a copy of the record of child support payments to an obligor or obligee, upon request. The bill would require the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to investigate an alleged discrepancy between payment records upon the request of an obligor or obligee. The OAG would be required to respond to the requestor within 20 days and to amend the SDU pay records, if appropriate. The OAG indicates that these functions could be performed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
