LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 17, 2003

TO:
Honorable Ray Allen, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1976 by Gallego (Relating to the provision of intervention or counseling services to certain persons who have committed family violence.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to allow courts, at the direction of community supervision and corrections department officers, to require persons on community supervision for family violence to attend battering intervention and prevention programs.  The bill would also specify the adoption of program guidelines and an accreditation process for battering intervention and prevention services.  The Texas Department of Criminal Justice does not anticipate a significant fiscal impact from this proposal.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
