LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 16, 2003

TO:
Honorable Kenneth Armbrister, Chair, Senate Committee on Natural Resources

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2012 by Hardcastle (Relating to the creation of an organic standards registration and certification program.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill amends language in the Agriculture Code to create an organic standards certification program, which puts the Department of Agriculture (TDA) more in line with USDA's organic certification standards. TDA already does organic certification and collects fees associated with this service.

The agency indicates that similar functions are currently performed and any additional costs can be absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
