LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 23, 2003

TO:
Honorable Kent Grusendorf, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2102 by Wong (Relating to sabbaticals for experienced public school teachers. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize, but not require school districts, to adopt a policy to provide to educators with 10 years of experience a sabbatical not to exceed two semesters in duration.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.  While districts implementing sabbatical policies and granting teacher sabbaticals would likely incur additional costs, school districts could presumably avoid all potential costs associated with the provision of sabbaticals by choosing not to adopt the policy authorized under this bill.
