The bill would add Chapter 312 to the Labor Code to establish the 21st Century Technology College and Careers Grant Program. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) would administer the program and make awards to partnerships around the state to promote voluntary educational improvement and workforce development opportunities for high school and college students.
The bill would prohibit the legislature from appropriating funds to implement the program and would take affect September 1, 2004.
TWC estimates $100,000 would be awarded to each of the 24 regional partnership in the state in each year. In addition, $158,734 in administrative costs are assumed per year, including personnel and associated travel costs.
