IN RE:
HB2129 by Chisum (Relating to the issuance of Space Shuttle Columbia license plates to benefit the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to issue specially designed Space Shuttle Columbia license plates for passenger cars and light trucks. The bill would require the plates to be designed by TxDOT in consultation with the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas.  The bill would also require applicants to submit a $30 annual fee in addition to other registration fees; that $8 of this fee be deposited to the credit of the State Highway Fund; and $22 to be deposited to the credit of the General Revenue Fund to be used by the Texas Aerospace Commission for the purpose of providing grants to benefit the Aviation and Space Foundation of Texas for the purpose of furthering aviation and space activities in Texas and providing Columbia Crew memorial scholarships to students.

No significant fiscal implication is anticipated due to the estimated number of license plate issuances.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.
