LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 25, 2003

TO:
Honorable Mary Denny, Chair, House Committee on Elections

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2150 by Denny (Relating to the date on which the period for early voting by personal appearance begins.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Election Code to change early voting periods that would by statute otherwise begin on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, to begin instead on the next regular business day. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003 and apply only to an election ordered on or after that date.

The provisions of the bill would result in a savings of the costs associated with up to two early voting days per affected election.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
