LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 30, 2003

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2164 by Dunnam (Relating to the period of validity of temporary cardboard tags issued to a vehicle buyer.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to extend the number of days for which a temporary cardboard buyer’s tag is valid from 21 to 31 days after the date of purchase.

Based on the analysis of the Department of Transportation, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2003.  The bill would only apply to a temporary cardboard buyer’s tag issued on or after the effective date of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
