LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 2, 2003

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2468 by Eissler (Relating to the exemption of the educational programs of certain institutions offering religious education from state or local regulation.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would allow institutions to offer degrees without regulation by the state if they can assert a religious purpose for the degree.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Local governments and state agencies could see an increase in applications from people holding degrees from such institutions, but the financial effect on processing the applications should be minimal.
