LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2003

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2482 by Uresti (Relating to the requirement that the parties in a suit affecting the parent-child relationship attend parenting classes.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

In a suit affecting the parent-child relationship, the bill would mandate the court to order the parties to the suit to attend a parent education and family stabilization course. In a suit affecting the parent-child relationship that provides for possession of or access to a child, the bill would give the court discretion to order the parties to the suit to attend a parent education and family stabilization course. Based upon the assumption that these proposals apply to private suits, the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services indicates no significant fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
