LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 17, 2003

TO:
Honorable Terry Keel, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2525 by Ellis (Relating to the punishment of certain assaults committed against persons who contract with government and employees of those persons.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code by making the offense of assault committed against persons who contract with government punishable as a felony of the third degree.  It is assumed that the additional number of offenders convicted under this statute would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of state corrections agencies or on the demand for resources and services of those agencies.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
