LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 28, 2003

TO:
Honorable Joe Driver, Chair, House Committee on Law Enforcement

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2595 by Homer (Relating to the eligibility requirements for the issuance or renewal of a driver's license that authorizes the license holder to operate a motorcycle in this state.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code as it relates to the eligibility requirements for the issuance or renewal of a motorcycle driver's license.  The bill would require the license applicant or holder to provide proof of passage of a basic motorcycle operator training course approved by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).  For the purpose of this analysis, it is assumed that DPS would use its current resources to certify training courses that would provide the training for license applicants for a fee.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
