No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminial Procedure relating to the exercise of peremptory challenges based upon race or gender. The bill would allow both the state and the defendant to request that a judge dismiss an array of jurors. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003 and would apply only to voir dire examinations that commence on or after that date.
