LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2003

TO:
Honorable Will Hartnett, Chair, House Committee on Judicial Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3070 by Casteel (Relating to the reimbursement of the expenses of jurors.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would allow a commissioners court to set different daily reimbursements for different kinds of jurors (e.g., grand jurors v. petit jurors, jurors in district court v. jurors in JP court). The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.

Because daily reimbursement fees for jurors are paid by counties, the bill would have no fiscal impact on the state. The amount of the daily reimbursements would still have to be within a prescribed range. The fiscal impact to counties would vary depending on what juror reimbursements within statutory requirements are established by the county for each type of jury.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
