No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code as it relates to the creation of a sheriff's department civil service system in a county with a population of more than 200,000 but less than 500,000. The bill would also authorize the commissioner's court in a county with a population of less than 2.8 million to order the creation of a sheriff's department civil service system.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.
