LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 15, 2003

TO:
Honorable Jaime Capelo, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3138 by Wilson (Relating to the classification of ephedra as a dangerous drug.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 483.001 (2) of Chapter 483, Dangerous Drugs, Health and Safety Code, to classify ephedra as a dangerous drug.  The Department of Health would continue to license food manufacturers, under the assumption these manufacturers would no longer make dietary supplements with ephedra, which creates no fiscal impact to the Department.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
