LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 21, 2003

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3209 by Heflin (Relating to the amount of financial assistance a student may receive under the TEXAS grant and tuition equalization grant programs.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would allow TEXAS Grant recipients who are also eligible for Tuition Equalization Grants (TEG) to receive full awards in both programs up to the amount of tuition and required fees charged to the student.

The Higher Education Coordinating Board has indicated that current requirements allow students to receive full TEXAS Grant awards and that TEG funding has been based on a formula that would not be affected by this change.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
