TO: | Honorable Robert Puente, Chair, House Committee on Natural Resources |
FROM: | John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB3214 by Cook, Robby (Relating to the fees of office payable to directors of certain general and special law districts.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would amend the Water Code by changing the limit on the fees of office that a director of certain general and special law districts may be paid. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2003.
Under current statute, a director is entitled to receive fees of office of not more than $150 a day for each day the director actually spends performing the duties of a director, not to exceed $6,000 annually, with exceptions for directors of certain special water authorities. The proposed revision in statute would raise the annual limit that a board may set to not more than $7,200. The same exceptions would apply.
