Honorable Norma Chavez, Chair, House Committee on Border and International Affairs
FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB3377 by Rangel (Relating to the filing of a notice of seizure and intended forfeiture in an asset forfeiture case and the location of a hearing in the case), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would authorize forfeiture cases arising from the Sarita Federal Checkpoint to be filed in the county in which the property was seized and, with consent of the respondent, in a county that is adjacent to and in the same judicial district as the county where the property was seized. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003.
Local Government Impact
Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
