LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 7, 2003

TO:
Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3416 by Marchant (Relating to the appointment of notaries public.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill amends the Government Code to remove the requirement that a notary public application be signed and sworn to or affirmed in the presence of a notary public or other person, authorized to administer oaths.  Although there is no significant fiscal impact on the Office of the Secretary of State, there will be some savings associated with the bill due to the simplification and streamlining of the application process for a notary public.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
