LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 29, 2003

TO:
Honorable Tom Craddick, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3526 by Hamric (Relating to the establishment of the research development fund to promote research at certain institutions of higher education and to the abolition of the Texas excellence fund and the university research fund.), As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would repeal existing sections of the Education Code for the Texas Excellence Fund and the University Research Fund. The two funds would be replaced by a Research Development Fund and use the same funding methodology that existed for the prior funds. The allocation of the funding would differ from prior statutory language, but not the overall amount of funding.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
