LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 27, 2003

TO:
Honorable Norma Chavez, Chair, House Committee on Border and International Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3544 by Gutierrez (Relating to establishing a pilot program to prevent certain juveniles from crossing the border between this state and Mexico.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require that a pilot program be established in the counties of Hidalgo and Cameron to prevent certain juveniles from crossing the border between Texas and Mexico.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the only impact to the agency would be for training, and the agency estimates that the costs could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
