TO: | Honorable Glenn Lewis, Chair, House Committee on County Affairs |
FROM: | John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HJR75 by Chisum (Proposing a constitutional amendment to allow the creation, by local option election, of the office of county senior citizens advisor. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The cost to the state for publication of the resolution is $85,275.
If the constitutional amendment passes, a county would incur the costs of holding an election if presented with a petition. According to the Comptroller of Public Accounts, data collected from the Secretary of State indicates the average cost for holding a uniform election is $0.89 per registered voter. The cost of an election would vary by county, depending on the number of registered voters.
The county would also incur costs for reimbursing the elected advisor for expenses incurred in performing the duties of senior citizen advisor. The fiscal impact would vary depending on expenses incurred; however, the fiscal impact is not anticipated to be significant.
