No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated, other than the cost of publication.

The cost to the state for publication of the resolution is $85,275.


The resolution would propose an amendment to Article VIII of the Texas Constitution to allow the Legislature to allocate to the Available School Fund an amount greater than one-fourth of the net revenue from the tax on motor fuels sold to volunteer fire departments for their exclusive use.

The proposed constitutional amendment would be submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2003.


Local Government Impact

Local communities would benefit to the degree that volunteer fire departments received the transferred revenue.
