IN RE: | SB174 by Nelson (Relating to the confidentiality of information in an application for a marriage license.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would amend the Government Code to require that a person's social security number on an application for a marriage license or on a document submitted with the marriage license is confidential and may not be disclosed to the public by the county clerk. If a request for a copy of the record is received in the county clerk's office, the social security number shall be redacted from the document before a copy is released.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2003 and apply only to an application for a marriage license that is filed on or after the effective date.
