No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to require that a person's social security number on an application for a marriage license or on a document submitted with the marriage license is confidential and may not be disclosed to the public by the county clerk. If a request for a copy of the record is received in the county clerk's office, the social security number shall be redacted from the document before a copy is released.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2003 and apply only to an application for a marriage license that is filed on or after the effective date.


Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
