TO: | Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs |
FROM: | John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | SB194 by Staples (Relating to immunity for certain governmental employees for an act or omission committed while supervising an inmate or offender program or activity.), As Introduced |
The bill would add county attorneys, district judges, district attorneys, and criminal district attorneys to the list of those immune to liability for an act or omission committed while supervising an inmate or offender program or activity.
No significant fiscal implication to the state or units of local government is anticipated. The bill could result in some cost savings due to the reduction of county and district liability from certain suits, and also the reduction in county and state legal expenditures for defending local and district officials from suit. However, the savings would be small because of the infrequent nature of the litigation at issue.
