No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require that a person hold a permanent peace officers license in order to serve as a sheriff or as a constable. The bill would take effect September 1, 2003. The requirements would not apply to a sheriff or constable already serving in office.

Obtaining a permanent peace officers license would be incumbant upon the person seeking the office of sheriff or constable.

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
