No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code by adding survivors of chaplains of fire-fighting units, law enforcement agencies, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to the list of individuals who are eligible for death benefits.The bill would apply to a death that occurs on or after September 1, 2003.The Employee Retirement System of Texas estimates the approximate annual cost per public safety benefit paid is $274,000.The fiscal impact of the bill would depend on the future number of chaplain deaths.It is assumed that implementation of the bill would not have a significant impact on the costs of state government
