LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 15, 2003

TO:
Honorable Terry Keel, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB501 by Armbrister (Relating to laws regulating the carrying of weapons, including the application of criminal trespass laws to persons licensed to carry a concealed handgun.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code by providing a defense to the prosecution of individuals for the offense of criminal trespass, and to the offense of trespass by holder of a license to carry a concealed handgun.  Providing a defense to the prosecution of individuals for offenses would result in fewer prosecutions and would not result in additional fiscal implications to the State.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
