LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 23, 2003

TO:
Honorable Jaime Capelo, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB594 by Van de Putte (Relating to the definition of an ambulatory surgical center. ), Committee Report 2nd House, As Amended

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to clarify the definition of an ambulatory surgical center. Currently an ambulatory surgical center is defined as a facility primarily providing surgical services to patients who do not require overnight hospital care and the bill would clarify what is not considered to be "overnight hospital care".  The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all members in each house.  If it does not receive the votes necessary for immediate effect, the bill would take effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
