LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 18, 2003

TO:
Honorable Bill Ratliff, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB695 by Janek (Relating to the authority of certain counties to prohibit the use or possession of certain fireworks on public beaches. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would authorize counties bordering the Gulf of Mexico or its tidewater limits and counties adjacent to Harris County to prohibit the use or possession of certain fireworks on public beaches.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives two-thirds vote in each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2003.

Local Government Impact

If a county were to prohibit the use or possession of certain fireworks on public beaches, the county would incur the costs of posting notice of the ban and enforcement. It is not anticipated that the cost would be significant.
