Fiscal Analysis

The bill would require the Water Development board to undertake or participate in research, feasibility and facility planning studies, investigations, and surveys as it considers necessary to further the development of cost-effective water supplies from seawater desalination. The bill would require that every even numbered year, the Water Development Board would prepare and submit a progress report to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Methodology

The agency estimates that costs for conducting the desalination research and studies to be $15,000 per biennium and require 0.25 FTE every other fiscal year. The agency expects that these costs could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
