FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 11, 2003

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB800 by Madla (Relating to the establishment of Texas A&M University--San Antonio.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

SB 800 establishes Texas A&M University - San Antonio as a component institution of the Texas A&M University System once enrollments at the Texas A&M University - Kingsville System Center - San Antonio reaches 2,500 full-time (equivalent) students for one semester.  At the current rate of growth the A&M System projects that this will not occur until FY2009.  Therefore, there will be no fiscal impact over the next five years.  If and when enrollments meet target levels, and the entity is recognized as an institution of higher education, there will likely be new incremental costs.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
