No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require instruction in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for all subjects in the foundation and the enrichment curriculum. The Texas Education Agency states that textbook review processes currently are based on the TEKS. A school district could apply to the Commissioner of Education for an extension in complying with the requirements of the bill.
Local Government Impact
Current law requires that districts use TEKS only as guidelines for instruction in the enrichment curriculum. To the extent districts are not currently providing instruction in the TEKS for the enrichment curriculum, there would be some potential for local costs to be incurred to align instruction with curriculum requirements. It is impossible to determine whether these costs would be significant, and the costs would likely vary considerably between districts.
