LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 78TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 26, 2003

TO:
Honorable Joe Nixon, Chair, House Committee on Civil Practices

FROM:
John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB833 by Williams (Relating to the application of the Charitable Immunity and Liability Act of 1987 to alumni associations and on-campus organizations.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 84.003(1) of the Civil Practices and Remedies Code by removing alumni associations and related on-campus organizations, such as fraternities, sororities, and secret societies, from the definition of charitable organizations. The University of Texas System indicates that implementation of the bill would not have a fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
